Congratulations to Shelbi Vaughan from Mansfield, Texas, who PR’d by 14 feet at the Texas Relays last Friday to establish a new National Record for the high school girls discus. Her mark of 191′ 6″ broke Anna Jelmini’s 2009 record by over a foot. Check out the ESPN article here.

I just came across this video on youtube. It is a nice comparative analysis of two high-level high school shot putters. The poster of the video, throwfarrighthappens, has a bunch of other great videos like it on his page as well, definitely worth taking a look.
More and more high school shot putters are utilizing the rotational technique. Currently, two rotators are leading the WIAA boys honor roll after a couple of early season meets. Theron Baumann of Monona Grove, owns the top mark in the state at 60′ 3″, and Jason Zahn of Grafton, is close behind him at 59′ 8.25″.
