I just learned of a great series of calls that is happening in January with some of the top female throwers in the US participating. The calls happen Sunday and Tuesday nights at 7PM Central time. Upcoming speakers include Aretha Thurmond (discus), Amber Campbell (hammer throw), Britney Henry (hammer throw), Suzy Powell Roos (discus), Kara Patterson (javelin), and Stephanie Brown Trafton (discus). Discus thrower, Dan Hytinen (UW-Whitewater graduate), is hitting his stride just in time for the upcoming US Nationals next week. On Sunday, his mark of 61.26m is a PR by nearly a meter. The throw came in the second round of the initial Chicagoland Throws Series held at Benedictine University. This weekend kicks off the Chicagoland Summer Throws Series, organized by Alex Heacock and Tom Pukstys, at Benedictine University. The dates are June 12, 19, and July 20. Saturday saw the completion of the men’s and women’s discus throws, and the men’s and women’s javelin. The javelin was contested opposite of the discus, so I didn’t get a chance to see any of it.
