In my opinion, the glide shot put is the most difficult event to coach in the throws. I just learned of a great series of calls that is happening in January with some of the top female throwers in the US participating. The calls happen Sunday and Tuesday nights at 7PM Central time. Upcoming speakers include Aretha Thurmond (discus), Amber Campbell (hammer throw), Britney Henry (hammer throw), Suzy Powell Roos (discus), Kara Patterson (javelin), and Stephanie Brown Trafton (discus). With the start of the high school season right around the corner, there are a couple of clinic opportunities for athletes in and around southern Wisconsin. The first is coming up this weekend in Waukesha. Championship Track and Field Camps will once again be hosting their winter learn-by-doing clinic at Waukesha South High School, on December 17. It looks to me like he has put on some good weight since the last videos I’ve seen of him. He writes at the end of the video that he is up near 22o pounds now. If you have any experience with the weight throw, I’m sure you’ve found yourself trying to tape up or epoxy a broken ball to get you through another practice session. While the balls have become quite a bit more durable over the last couple of years, they have also become more expensive, and the companies have become less willing to warrantee them.
