Dumbbell Power Throws for Shot Put – Video Drill of the Week

This week’s video drill of the week features the dumbbell power throw for the shot put.  The dumbbell power throw allows the athlete to focus on fundamentals of the power position.  By using a band in the left hand, the athlete can feel the effect of a strong block annd getting onto the left side.  The dumbbell teaches the athlete to keep the thumb down through the throwing motion, while building specific strength in the arm.  It is important that the athlete turn the hips completely into the direction of the throw before extending the arm.
