Wheel Drill For Glide Shot Put

This week’s drill features the wheel drill for the glide shot put, or sometimes referred to as the half wheel.  The wheel drill is a common drill used in the rotational shot put and discus throws.  While glide shot putters may not need the same emphasis of wrapping in the middle and rotating, it is still critical to get the right knee and hip turned into the direction of the throw before pushing the shot with the upper body.  This drill teaches the athlete to sit back on the right (power) foot, allowing the hip to get ahead of the shot going into delivery.
